Senior officials from five U.S. and UK financial authorities held a tabletop exercise on Sept. 3, 2026, to discuss issues relating to the hypothetical resolution of central counterparties, according to a joint readout released Sept. 11.
The participating bodies were the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Reserve Board and the Bank of England.
Part of a series begun in 2017
The readout said the session was one of a regular series of senior-level meetings held since 2017 to share views on the resolution of central counterparties, or CCPs, and to review the progress of what the authorities described as an ongoing program of joint work among the agencies.
The exercise gave the participants an opportunity to review recent joint work, the readout said, “in particular the information sharing and communications arrangements to support financial stability in the event of a CCP resolution.”
No outcomes disclosed
The document does not identify any specific institution, does not describe the scenario used in the exercise, and does not announce any policy decision, rule or agreement. It states only that participants “acknowledged the importance of continuing to facilitate a dialogue between UK and U.S. authorities and continuing to share analyses and discussing policy formulation in relation to CCP resolution.”
The readout names media contacts at the Bank of England, the FDIC, the CFTC and the SEC. It does not list a contact for the Federal Reserve Board.
The release was issued by the SEC as press release 2026-87 and was last reviewed or updated on Sept. 11, 2026.
