What we cover
Politics. The federal government and the machinery around it. Congress, the White House, the courts, the agencies, campaigns, and elections. We report what officials do, what documents show, and what the process produces, in that order.
Crime. Crime at the national level. federal prosecutions, major investigations, court proceedings, sentencing, and the conduct of law enforcement. We follow cases through the system rather than stopping at the arrest.
How we report
We work from primary sources: filings, transcripts, official statements, data releases, and on-the-record interviews. When we rely on documents, we link to them or say where they can be found. When we cannot confirm something, we say so plainly and do not publish it as fact.
